Abbie Moe

August 12, 1912 — July 21, 2010

Abbie Lenore Moe was born on August 12, 1912 in Colfax Township , North Dakota to Albert and Ingeborg (Bevre) Gauslow. She attended rural school in Colfax Township and graduated from Christine High School in 1929. She did housekeeping for several years after graduation, and then chose her profession in the field of nursing. She attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing ( Now Fairview Memorial Hospital ) in Minneapolis , MN for four years, graduating in 1939. She was a Nursing Supervisor in Worthington , MN for five years. She returned to Richland County and married Carl Moe on December 27, 1943 at the Gauslow home, with only the immediate families in attendance. Carl was stationed at Galesburg , Ill. before his discharge so the couple lived there until returning to farm the Moe Family Farm in Colfax Township in February of 1945. Carl died in 1959; Abbie returned to her nursing career in 1969 and became the Supervising Charge Nurse when Elim Nursing Home opened that same year. She loved the nursing field and her patients. Abbie retired in 1986 after 17 years. Abbie remained on the Moe farm after Carl’s death, moving to Walcott Township in 1981. In 1997 she entered the Carriage House in Moorhead , MN , moved to Serenity Assisted Living Center in Dilworth for 3 years, and this past year the Elim Care Center .

Abbie was a life long member of the Richland Lutheran Church , Walcott , ND , active in WELCA, an associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church , Moorhead , MN and active in the Quilters Group, helped with the Sons of Norway and belonged to the Barney North Dakota VFW Auxiliary. Her family was the most important part of her days and she would always say how fortunate she was to have lived such a full and wonderful life. Even after Carl died, she cared for his two brothers, Harold and Martin on the family farm until their deaths. Abbie was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren; their education and their accomplishments.

Abbie and Carl were blessed with five children; four sons and one daughter; David who died at the age of 2 ½, Robert (Connie) Moe, Hilton Head, SC; Larry (Jean) Moe, Walcott, ND, Mary (Charley) Johnson, Moorhead, MN; Carlton (Barb) Moe, Barnesville, MN, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her sister, Lorraine Langseth, Wahpeton, ND, and her sister-in-law, Christine Gauslow. She was preceded in death by her parents, the “love of her life” Carl in 1959, son David in 1947 and two brothers, Orris and Andrew Gauslow.

Abbie’s family would like to give a special thank you to her “Other” daughter, Loraine Kummer, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Serenity Assisted Living, and her guardian angel, Valerie Heim for all their care over the years.
