Alfred Arnold

July 3, 1920 — February 15, 2011

Alfred was born on July 3, 1920, at the family homestead in Richland County, N.D., the oldest son of five children to Albert and Minnie (Nodding) Arnold. Alfred married Virginia Bernard on Nov. 2, 1941. The couple had three children, one son and two daughters. The family farmed for 30 years near Fairmount, N.D. After retiring from farming, Alfred drove truck for Cenex in Fairmount and then semi for Michigan Implement in Michigan, N.D. They retired again in Valley City, N.D. After his wife passed away, Al moved to Laurel to be closer to his grand and great-grandchildren, where he enjoyed telling stories of his life. Al loved to help with 4-H in his younger years, as well as square dancing, and, even at 90, he loved dancing.

Our dad, grandpa, great-papa and brother will be greatly missed by those who survive him: two sisters, Lucille Norem, Jeanne (Vern) Bakken; son, Steve (Christine) Arnold, Park City, Mont.; two daughters, Mary Ann (Ted) VanKempen, Salem, Ore., and Cindy (Jerry) Kemmet, Bismarck, N.D.; grandchildren, Chad (Crystal) Arnold, Michael (Angie) Arnold, Sandra (Bob) Downing, Angela Arnold and Brittany LaSalle; seven greatgrandchildren, Kyle, Austin, Kayla, Isaiah, Brandon, Zach and Ashleigh.

Alfred was preceded in death by: his wife of 62 years; his parents; an infant sister; and a brother, Harvey.

A warm thanks to St. Vincent's Stroke Care Unit and to all the staff of Billings Health and Rehab Memory Care Unit for the wonderful care that you gave to our dad.
