Arlene Gilje, 84, Wyndmere, ND passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 7, at 1:00 PM at Wyndmere Lutheran Church with Rev. Harvey Henderson officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Arlene was born on September 2, 1928 to John and Olda (Farup) Ostern in Delamere, ND. She attended school in Wyndmere and graduated from High School in 1946. Arlene went on to attend NDSCS in Wahpeton and got her degree and worked as a secretary for Pioneer Mutual Insurance Co. in Fargo.
Arlene was united in marriage to Kermit Gilje on September 16, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, ND. They lived on the Gilje family farm where they raised their four sons. Kermit passed away on July 15, 2005 and Arlene continued to live on the farm with Wayne until 2010 when she moved to Edgewood Vista in Fargo.
Arlene was a very active member of Wyndmere Lutheran Church including Sunday School, sewing, and bible study. She enjoyed sharing coffee and conversation with friends and family, and her grandchildren were a very special part of her life. She will be missed by all.
Arlene is survived by her four sons: Dale and Wayne Gilje, Wyndmere, ND, Curtis (Roxane) Gilje, and their children, Alette, Brian, and Andrew, of Eden Prairie, MN, Howard (Sandy) Gilje, and their children, Gretta and Brenna, of Bismarck, ND; her two sisters, Harriet Odegaard, Fargo, ND, Lenore Stoltenow, Lawrence, KS; and one brother, Eskild (Dianna) Ostern, Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kermit; her two sisters, Audrey Bakken, Donna Lee Ostern in infancy; and one brother, Harris Ostern.
