Arthur Mahler

Arthur J. Mahler, 93, Breckenridge, MN, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. A Funeral Service will be Saturday, 2:00 PM, at First English Lutheran Church, Fairmount, ND, with Rev. Anthony Ahrendt officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 6 PM to 8 PM with a 7:30 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. There will be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in St John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Tyler, ND. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Arthur J. Mahler the ninth child of thirteen was born June 7, 1920 in DeVillo Township, Richland County, the son of Carl and Elsie (Ehlers) Mahler. He grew up on the family farm attending rural school at DeVillo No. 1. Art was united in marriage to Shirley Nutt on September 28, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. The couple lived and farmed near Fairmount until 1967, when the family moved into Fairmount. He drove truck for many years for Cenex. Shirley passed away November 4, 1991. He married Lucy Hardie on December 11, 1993; the couple lived in Wahpeton and Twin Town Villa in Breckenridge before moving to St. Francis Health Care Campus.

Art enjoyed walking and bike riding and looked forward to his coffee group. He always took time to visit with others; he once told his family that he "never met a stranger".

Art is survived by his wife, Lucy, his six children: Paul (Kathy) Mahler, Ellendale, ND; Lois (Roger) Koppang, Moorhead, MN; Joyce (Thomas) Klyve, Detroit Lakes, MN; Beth (Pat) Allen, rural Campbell, MN; Karen Mahler, Moorhead, MN; Kathy (John) Jambois, Prescott, AZ; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, three step children, Wallie (Connie) Hardie, Wahpeton; David (Joan) Hardie, Breezy Point, MN; Wanda (Wayne) Mauch, Wahpeton; 8 step grandchildren, 8 step great- grandchildren, one sister, Hilda Danowsky, Claremont, CA; and one brother, Kenneth (Rhoda) Mahler, Silver Springs, MD.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter, Kyla (Mahler) Morehead.
