Betty Olson

Betty J. Olson, 91, Wahpeton, ND, formerly of rural Galchutt, ND, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 30, from 4 PM to 7 PM, followed by the funeral service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, with Rev. Michael Buller officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Betty was born on November 15, 1923 in Abercrombie Township, Richland County, ND to Arthur and Maude (Luing) Tuel. She grew up in the Galchutt area and graduated from Galchutt High School.
Betty was united in marriage to Russell Olson on September 12, 1943 at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, MN. The couple farmed and made their home on a farm southeast of Galchutt where they raised their two children. After the children were grown and Russell semi-retired, Betty began her employment with NDSCS in the Food Services Department. She continued to work and live on the farm after Russell passed away on January 31, 1998. In 2002, after 19 years of service, she retired from NDSCS. She enjoyed spending her summers at the family lake cabin on Otter Tail Lake and couldn't wait to take a pontoon ride each weekend. She was an avid gardener and was so proud of her beautiful flower gardens. In August 2014, she became a resident of Sienna Court in Wahpeton.
Betty was a member of Galchutt Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a very independent woman who did what she wanted and didn't like to sit still. She was always on the go either to rummage sales (the first one there) or to bingo which was a very competitive sport for her.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Myrna (Curtis) Olson, Detroit Lakes, MN; her son, Bruce (Linda) Olson, Wahpeton, ND; her grandchildren, Scott (Renae) Olson, Park Rapids, MN and their children, Kaitlyn and Jaden; Kimberly (Brent) Baysinger, Rockledge, FL, and their children, Mackenzie and Alex; Heidi (Brian) Kopatich, Danville, Il and their children, Jackson and McKenna; Jodi (Larry) Laney, Verona, ND, and their children, Emersyn and Austin; many nieces and nephews; her good friend, Elaine Score; and her cat, Kitty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Maude Tuel; her husband, Russell; her brother, Melvin Tuel; and an infant brother.
