Clarice Thiel

Clarice Thiel, 89, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 11 at 10:30 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church , Wahpeton with Pastor Jim Gustafson officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 10 from 5 pm to 8 pm with a prayer service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel ( 920 3 ^rd Ave N ) Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Mantador , ND at a later date. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton is charge of arrangements.

Clarice Anna Thiel was born on February 14, 1921 to John and Christine (Golberg) Odegaard at rural Wyndmere , ND . She attended Wyndmere High School and after graduating from high school in 1939 she moved to Mooreton , ND to work on a farm.

While in Mooreton, Clarice met Paul Thiel and they were united in marriage on October 12, 1944 in Mantador , ND . The couple farmed on a farm near Mooreton until they retired in 1972. Paul passed away on April 19, 1973 and Clarice continued to live on the farm until 1978 when she moved into Wahpeton. In 1977, she began working for St. Catherine’s Living Center until she retired in 1992.

Clarice was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting with the Bethel Ladies Guild, gardening, walking, visiting and traveling.

Clarice is survived by her two sons, John Thiel, Rapid City, SD, and Steve Thiel, Wahpeton, ND; her two sisters, Eleanor Braaten, Kindred, ND, Carol (Arlington-“Bud”) Mitskog, Fargo, ND; her brother, Gerald (Harriet) Odegaard, Wyndmere, ND.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Paul Thiel; her two brothers, Olaf and Clifford Odegaard; her sister, Grace York; and her brother-in-law, Elder Braaten.
