Dayle Dietz

Dayle Dietz, 84, of Sun City West, AZ, formerly of Wahpeton, ND, died November 25,
2013, of natural causes. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, 11:00 a.m, December 2, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, from 4 PM to 7 PM with a 6 PM Prayer Service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Dayle was born in Hibbing, MN on December 2, 1928, to Melvin Lewis Shogren and Dorothy Pauline Morrison. Her family moved to Grand Forks and she graduated from Grand Forks High School and attended the University of North Dakota. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and met her future husband at the university. Robert Odell (Bob) Dietz and Dayle were married in Grand Forks on September 8, 1947.

Bob and Dayle lived in Fargo where they owned their first grocery store. Later, they moved to Wahpeton and owned Dietz and Murray/Bob's Fairway. Dayle was a homemaker and a traditional full time mother -- she was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her boys and she taught her daughter to sew. Later, Dayle returned to college to complete her bachelor's and master's degrees in education at Moorhead State.

Dayle was the Department chair of the Marketing and Management department at the ND State College of Science and taught business subjects. She served on the boards of directors of Ottertail Power from 1983 to 2001, and Norwest Bank of Wahpeton. Dayle was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives and served two terms from 1979 to 1982.

She retired to Little Floyd Lake, Minnesota with her husband Bob. After his death in 1993 she moved to Sun City West, Arizona.

Dayle enjoyed international travel, and visited Europe, Russia and China.

Dayle is survived by her children, Bryan (Jeannie Hoppert) Dietz of Lake Forest, CA, Dan Dietz of Burnsville, MN, Dr. Jane (Dr. Randy) Winston of Surprise, AZ, Bob ("Chip") Dietz of New Hope, MN; by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and by her brother Myron Shogren of Fountain Hills, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, by her parents Melvin and Dorothy, and by her brother Donald Shogren.
Memorials can be sent to the NDSCS Foundation at 800 Sixth Street North, Wahpeton, ND 58076 for the Dietz scholarship fund.
