Elaine Hawes, 78, Wahpeton, ND, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at her home in Wahpeton. The Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 30 th at Inspiration Lutheran Brethren Church , Breckenridge , MN , with Pastor Tim Voth officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery , Nashua , MN .





Elaine was born June 5, 1931 in rural Delaware Township, Grant County, Minnesota . She graduated from Tintah High School in 1948. Elaine was united in marriage to Richard Hawes on June 22, 1950, at the First Congregational Church, in Tintah. They lived and farmed near Nashua and later at Battle Lake , MN . They resided for four years near Wendell , MN and then resumed farming near Nashua in 1962. Their home on Clitherall Lake became a favorite family gathering spot beginning in 1976. The couple moved to Wahpeton in October of 1998; Richard passed away March 26 th , 1999. Elaine continued to live at her home in Wahpeton, spending her summers at Clitherall Lake .





Elaine’s interests were her family; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel and was an avid reader.





Elaine is survived by her four children: Reginald (Valarie) Hawes, Tintah, MN; Debra (Gary) Bach, Wyndmere, ND; Koyla (Dennis) Holtz, Wahpeton, ND; Schuyler (Angela) Hawes, Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren: Stephanie (Craig) Carter, Sabin, MN; Cullen (Abby) Hawes, Johnston, Iowa; Alissa (John Laddie) Bata, Owatonna, MN; Bradan (Amy) Bach, Fargo, ND; Amber (Philip) Gorman, West Fargo, ND; Arianne (Mike) Berndt, Franklin, TN; Nikala (Chad) Pelvit, Amelia, OH, Alexis Holtz, Bloomington, MN; Wyatt Holtz, Fisher, MN; Garett (Sara) Hawes, Colfax, ND; BriAnna (Aaron) Roberts, Chaska, MN, and 18 great-grandchildren.





Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, her granddaughter Erica Elaine Holtz, and her brother and sister-in-law Harvey and Ada Lindsey.
