Elarine Pelzl

Elarine E Pelzl (98) died Jan. 2 at the St. Francis Health Care Campus. The funeral will be on Friday, Jan. 10 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton with visitation on Thurs. from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 at the church. Interment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
Elarine Foertsch was born May 14, 1915 in Mantador, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Reiland) Foertsch. She was educated in the Mantador area. On Oct. 19, 1937 she married George Pelzl. The couple farmed in the Mantador area until 1950 when they purchased a farm west of Wahpeton. Together they farmed until 1967 when they moved into town and later retired. George died May26, 1981. After his death she continued with their favorite pastimes. She enjoyed card playing and travel, particularly to visit family. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses. Family members cherish the many quilts she created. She also crocheted, decorated cakes, and enjoyed gardening. She was a faithful member of St. John's Church where she was active in the Christian Mothers and her church circle. When she was no longer able to maintain her own home she moved to Appletree Court and later to St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckenridge.
Left to cherish the memory of this beautiful lady are her three daughters, Marlys (Manford) Husebo of Edina, MN, Ardel Bengtson, South Sioux City, NE, and Lois (Darrel) Lund of West Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Shannon (Lynn) Leiting of Gretna, NE , Chris (Jennifer) Bengtson of South Sioux City, NE and Michaele (Dan) Carlson of West Point, NE; seven great-grandchildren, Trevor, Elle, Kate, and Faith Leiting, Zander Bengtson, and Dylan and Drew Carlson; two sisters Florence Bohn and Marie (Clifford) Novotny and a brother Arnold and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, two sisters Alvina and Evelyn, and a son-in-law Al Bengtson.
