Ella Oscarson

July 12, 1916 — February 17, 2011

Ella Adeline Anderson was born July 12, 1916, near Colfax, ND, to O. A. and Emma (Johnson) Anderson. She attended rural grade school at Pitcairn and high school in Colfax and Abercrombie, ND. After graduating from high school, Ella worked briefly at the Good Samaritan Crippled Children's Home in Fargo, and did domestic chores for families in Fargo, Seattle, and Santa Monica, CA. While in Santa Monica, she attended Willis Business College, and later was employed with Bank of America for over 10 years, working her way up to Lending Officer, a job held by very few women in those days.

Ella was united in marriage to Marvin Oscarson on January 3, 1953, at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Abercrombie. The couple lived on the family farm and raised one daughter, Evonne. Marvin passed away on March 27, 1974 and Ella remained in her home on the farm until she entered the St. Francis Nursing Home in July of 2009.

Ella was a member of Bethany Free Lutheran Church where she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years. She was active in the Dorcas Society and Ladies Aid, and also served as church treasure for many years. Ella enjoyed music and took pride in the fact that she had made her daughter practice diligently and was delighted when her grandson chose to marry a music teacher. She obtained her Ham Radio license and proudly displayed her call letters, WB0FMM on the license plate on her car.

Ella believed in hard work and liked being outside mowing the lawn and tending to her beautiful flower beds. She has a special gift of caring for others who were sick and dying, and sat by the bedside of many relatives in their final days. She liked traveling and reading and was especially interested in anything about the presidents and Washington, D.C. Another pastime of Ella's was taking pictures of clouds, sunsets, frosty trees, churches, parades and of course, her family.

Ella is survived by her daughter, Evonne and son-in-law, Tim Viland, Abercrombie, ND; three grandsons: Troy (Kiersten), Marshall, and Kyle Viland, all of Abercrombie, her sisters-in-law, Selma Anderson, Adeline Holte, and Rhoda Oscarson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin; her brothers, Louis, Ellsworth, and Clifford Anderson, her sisters, Pearl Anderson and Clara Nelson; special sister-in-law, Lois Oscarson on October 17, 2010 and several other brothers and sisters-in-law.
