Esther Skoog, 99, Fargo, ND, formerly Walcott, ND, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Bethany Homes, Fargo. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 4, 10:00 a.m., at Mavis Whiting Chapel, Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND. Visitation will be Monday, from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at Bethany Homes on Tuesday. Interment will be at Zion United Methodist Cemetery, rural Walcott, ND. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Esther was born on September 21, 1912 in Veblen, SD, the daughter of Axel and Clara (Knutson) Engnes. She grew up in the Veblen area. She lived for a time near Colfax, ND, before moving to New Canton, IL. They returned to Colfax, ND where Esther graduated from Colfax High School, it was the High Schools first class to graduate from Colfax.

Esther was united in marriage to Carl R. Skoog on October 3, 1931 at Walcott, ND. They farmed in the Walcott/Colfax/Christine area until Carl passed away on October 23, 1963. Esther moved to Fargo in 1971 where she was employed by Bethany Towers and was a hospital representative for the American Legion Auxiliary at the VA Hospital in Fargo. In 1991, Esther retired and moved to Wahpeton; she entered Bethany Homes as a resident in 2005.

Esther is survived eight children; Elaine Wittman, Moorhead, MN; Kenneth (Erlys) Skoog, Wahpeton; Elsie Edenstrom, Newport News, VA; Elvina Edenstrom, Fargo; Kathryn Kielb, Fargo; Robert (Kay) Skoog, Walcott, ND; Wayne Skoog, Austin, TX; Sandra Breiner, Mandan, ND; 31 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 11 great great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Norris Olson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, her daughter Ruth Olson, granddaughter, Renee Skoog, her sister, Adeline Farrington, two brothers, Alvin and Arthur Engnes and four sons-in-law.
