Eugene William Childs was born June 24, 1919 in

(Boyer) Childs. At 6 weeks of age his family moved back to the Walcott area where they farmed for a living.
Eugene
was baptized on April 7

, 1946 as an adult and confirmed November 23

Lutheran
Church
in
Abercrombie

ND
. He married Helen Naomi Gunness on April 8
th
, 1944 and the couple made
their home on the former George Tarr farm and farmed there until 1986. They raised two sons, Larry and Bradley.
Eugene
was very active as a member of
Emmanuel
Lutheran
Church
until 1958 when they transferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran in Colfax.
Eugene
was on the school board for 9 years and was very active in community events as well. He was also on a bowling team with some of his close friends, and a member of the Fargo Eagles where he and Helen loved to dance. Gene also enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors in general. He loved farming and in later years he took up gardening and enjoyed sharing the produce with friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, Fargo;

sons, Larry (Linda) Childs, West Fargo, ND; Bradley (Sheila) Childs, Walcott; three grandchildren

Joelle (Kelby) Herman, Wayne, NE; Darci (Todd

Forest lake, MN; Kylie (Jamie)
Preusse, West Fargo, ND; and three step-grandchildren, Donna (Brian)

Antelope, CA; Janet Cullen, Northglenn, Co; Dennis Cullen, Fargo; five great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by
his
parents, Clark and Pearl Childs; his brother and sister-in-law, Veryl and Marie Childs; and his sister and brother-in-law,
Florence
and Hurthue Tarr.
