Eugene Herbert Hoeft was born on July 8, 1933 to Herbert and Edna (Stoltenow) Hoeft in Wahpeton, ND. He attended Brandenburg #2, rural Great Bend , ND and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1951. On February 20, 1954 he married his high school sweet heart, Marlys “Suzie” Brosowske at Peace Lutheran Church , Barney , ND . Eugene served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Ft. Chaffee , Arkansas before returning to Wahpeton. In 1969 the couple purchased a farmstead southwest of Wahpeton where they lived until Eugene ’s health forced him to retire in 1992.

Eugene loved the land! He worked long hours and put his best into his career. He was a good business manager and mechanic; rarely needing outside help to repair anything. He and “Suzie” worked side by side as a “team”. He also raised hogs, chickens and ducks with his two girls, Lisa and Shelle at his side. After retirement Eugene rarely missed an Auction in the community; having several of his own and setting up Auctions and assisted in settling sales for his Auctioneer friend, Tim Johnson. He also enjoyed goose hunting. His black lab Jet (named by his daughter Lisa) never missed a hunting trip. Eugene shared many stories and skills with many hunters he associated with.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlys “Suzie” Hoeft, two daughters, Lisa Jean (Lenny), Heron Lake, MN and Shelle Renee (David Stanby) Goodijohn, Breckenridge, MN, four grandchildren; Amanda, Justin, Alisha and Ashley and one great granddaughter, Maddie Marie, three sisters, Dorothy Mueller, Fergus Falls, MN, Avis (Larry) Colgrove, Ft. Lupton, CO and Valeria (John) Bohlig, Minot, ND and one brother, Willard (Betty) Hoeft, Hankinson, ND as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Wanda Rae and a brother-in-law Arthur Mueller.
