Evelyn Johnson-Chapa

September 27, 1913 — April 30, 2010

Evelyn C. Johnson-Chapa, 96, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Leach Home in Wahpeton. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 5, at 10:30 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church , Wahpeton, ND with Pastor Jim Gustafson officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 4, from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 pm at Willow Creek Chapel ( 920 3 rd Ave N ), Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Elk Creek Cemetery , Wyndmere , ND . Arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.





Evelyn was born on September 27, 1913 to Iver and Annie (Egge) Solvick in Kindred, ND. She attended school in Kindred. She was united in marriage to Rudolph Johnson on October 7, 1939 in Moorhead , MN . They lived in the McLeod and Wyndmere area until Rudolph’s death in 1964.





In 1967, she married Charles Chapa and they lived in rural Wyndmere until he passed away in 1989. In the fall of 1989, she moved to Wahpeton, ND where she resided until moving to the Leach Home in 2005.





Evelyn was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and quilted with the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed coffee parties, canning, and making jellies. She loved family gatherings and was especially proud of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.





Evelyn is survived by her five daughters, Ann (Claude) Strege, Wyndmere, ND, Ruby (John) Schaefer and Carol Anderson both of Las Vegas, NV, Joan (Kenwood) Peterson, Gwinner, ND, Cindy (James) Facey, Wahpeton, ND, and her 52 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.





She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, her two great-grandchildren Katelyn Hasbargen-Nelson and Kiera Nelson, and her two sisters, Inger Kirsch and Irene Bensen.
