A Francis G. Theede truism: "When the Day is set, it will come." 96 years ago, December 11, 1917, the date was set for his arrival; the third son in the family of ten children born to Alton J. and Elizabeth (Wawers) Theede. Attending local schools, he graduated high school from St. Francis Academy and began his life's work in agriculture. On October 22, 1941 he married Mary C. Campbell. They began a seventy-two year commitment that produced five children; Alton (Mary) Theede, Kathy (Don) Emde, Diane Boll, Jean (Bill) Wurl, Teresa (Kelly) Meyer. His family now includes eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three sisters, Agnes Hager, Irene Trom, and Dorothy Cossette.

Francis' life work was the Theede farm located west of Fairmount. He farmed early with his father, Alton, and then with his son, Alton, and was one of the original stockholders in Minn Dak Farmers Cooperative. Currently his grandsons are farming some of the same land. In 1978, Francis and Mary semi-retired and moved to a house in Wahpeton and made it their home.

Francis loved his life and family. He often said if he'd known how much fun having grown children was, he'd have had more (and he'd wink at Mary). He loved eating "MaMa Girls's" home cooked meals, riding his Gold Wing motorcycle, spending time with his neighbors, mowing grass, blowing snow, and attending Mass at St. John's (another truism: "Got the duty done.") He and Mary treasured times spent at Lake Heilberger with their family. They fished, exchanging quarters from whoever had the first landed fish. Enjoying sunsets over water, Francis would say another of his truisms: "Life is good.", with a smile on his contented face and, though he had health challenges later, he truly believed that he had a good life.

He was preceded in death by, his parents, his daughter, Diane Boll, his brothers, Adolph and Henry Theede, his sisters, Rosina Bergeson, Leska Stack, Leona Hanson, and Frances Mitchell.

The date set for his leaving this world was January 1, 2014. That day did come, just as he always said it would. LIFE IS GOOD!! It is….and He is…
