Fred Luebke

November 11, 1917 — March 16, 2012

Fred Paul Luebke was born November 11, 1917 in Becker County, near Detroit Lakes, MN, the son of August and Ella (Pfahning) Luebke. As a child the family moved to Antelope Township, near Barney, ND. He attended Antelope Country School and worked for Max Feustel on a farm and later at a hatchery. He entered the Army Air Force in 1942 and married Lorraine Heitkamp on March 9, 1943. He was stationed in Saipan where he was a radar repair specialist. He was Honorably Discharged on November 1945. He returned to the Barney, ND area where he entered Radio and TV Repair at NDSSS in Wahpeton. The couple moved to Wahpeton where Fred managed the National Tea; before he was employed at Schweitzer's, later Kimberly Clark in Breckenridge. He retired in 1980 and drove van for Southeast Region Career/Tech Center for several years. As a sideline Fred sold Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners and repaired black and white TV's throughout the years. Fred and Lorraine spent over forty years on Ten Mile Lake in Minnesota where he enjoyed fishing and relaxing with his family. Fred just recently entered St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton.

Fred was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was an avid woodworker, making many monarch butterflies and wind chimes which he sold. He was an avid hunter and was a very competitive bowler in his younger years. He and his family played in a band, "Luebke Rascals" for several years where Fred played the guitar and sang.

Fred is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Lorraine, Wahpeton; two sons and two daughters: Kenneth P. (Carol) Luebke, Rosholt, SD; Nancy A. (Bruce) Winterfeldt, Dalton, MN; Peggy J. (Tom) Strand, Newport, TN; Steven F. (Jocelyn) Luebke, Strasburg, ND; eight grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren and his twin sister, Dorothy Luebke, Wahpeton, his sister-in-law, Alta Luebke, Wyndmere, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Ella Luebke, four brothers: Harry, Emil, Edward and Eldo Luebke; two sisters: Linda Fahsholz and Nora Fuestel.
