Gust A. Sestak, 75, Wahpeton, ND, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Meritcare Hospital , Palliative Care Unit, Fargo , ND , after a brief battle with cancer. The funeral mass will be Wednesday, 10:30 am, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 6 PM prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery , Wahpeton.





Gust Sestak was born February 27, 1933, rural Lidgerwood , ND , the son of Gustav and Rose (Skutchan) Sestak. He grew up in rural Lidgerwood and attended rural school at Dexter No. 4. He helped on the family farm and was united in marriage to Joanne Rubey on June 28 1955 at Geneseo , ND . The couple farmed near Lidgerwood, for 12 years before moving to Wyndmere where Gust was chief of police. He later joined the Wahpeton Police Department where he was a patrolman and later a detective for the police department. He opened and operated S&S Exchange Auction House and also operated a pawn shop which he ran until 1995, when he retired.





Gust was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He refurbished and restored furniture and helped operate a stand at the Battle Lake flea market. He also enjoyed attending many auction sales.





Gust is survived by his wife Joanne Sestak, Wahpeton; his four daughters: Sandra (John) Alm, Walcott, ND; Linda James, Denver, Colorado; Darla (Keith) Leopold, Wahpeton; Melissa (Daryl) Miller, Wahpeton; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; his brother, Joe (Sheryn) Sestak, Laramie, WY; his four sisters: Anna Shorma, Denver, Colorado; Mildred (Harold) David, Lidgerwood, ND; Irene (Milton) Wahl, Denver, Colorado; and Renata Rubey, Wahpeton, and his two special dogs, Heidi and Bailee.





He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marie Wacha and Rose Sestak.
