Hattie Potocki

Hattie Potocki, 91, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, September 19, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton with Father Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5 pm to 7 pm with a prayer vigil at 7 pm at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Hattie (Jadwiga) Potocki was born February 17, 1921 at Zaturce, Poland, the daughter of Blaze and Helena (Niewiadomski) Burda. She grew up in Poland and married Walter Potocki on December 24, 1942. After WWII, Hattie and Walter decided to immigrate to the United States. Along with their young son, Mike, they set sail from Brannenhoffen Germany on April 1, 1950. They arrived in Staten Island, New York 13 days later. They lived in Alton, IL for a few months before moving to Wahpeton where there second son Joe was born. She worked for the Lyndale Creamery for 13 years. She began working for NDSCS in 1966 where she spent 24 years in the Food Service. She received the College Staff Meritious Service Award upon her retirement in 1990. Her husband passed away December 11, 2005, and Hattie continued to live in Wahpeton, entering St. Catherine's Living Center in the fall of 2010.

Hattie was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Her passion was her vegetable garden and her flowers. Retirement allowed her to enjoy her garden and flowers full time. Hattie was also a wonderful cook. No one ever left her home without having enjoyed a meal. She also enjoyed attending rummage sales with her husband.

Hattie is survived by her two sons; Mike (Patsy) Potocki, Battle Lake, MN; Joe (Louise) Potocki, Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren, Mike (Christy) Potocki, Breezy Point, MN: Jennifer (Pat Jones) Zajac, Little Cormorant Lake, MN; Bernadette (Bill) Behm, Fargo; Adam Potocki, Bismarck, Bridget Potocki, Columbus, OH; six great grandchildren – Zach, Logan, Janessa, Kelton, Porter, and Beau, her brother, Stanley (Peggy) Lesniewski, Miami, Manitoba and five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, her sister and brother-in-law, Lottie and Mike Lyznicki, and her brother, Cazimier.
