Jeanne Bakken

Jeanne Bakken, 77, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Parmly LifePointes in Chisago City, MN. The Funeral service will be on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, ND, with Rev. Morris Stephens, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Jeanne I. Arnold was born October 4, 1936 at home near Great Bend, ND, to Albert and Minnie (Noding) Arnold. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, ND and confirmed into the Christian Faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, ND. She attended school at Waldo No. 2 near Great Bend, Wahpeton Public Schools and North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton.

Jeanne was united in marriage to Vernon O. Bakken on December 9, 1953. She was employed at several businesses in the Wahpeton area including: St. Francis Nursing Home, Richland County Co-op, Wahpeton Motel Corp., Sandberg Law Office, Fancy Feet, and Ann's Show Box, until health issues forced her to retire.

Jeanne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, homemakers, Wahpeton Fire Auxiliary, VFW, Mrs. Jaycees, and AA. She was forever grateful for how AA made her closer to God and her AA friends made her a better person. She loved her grandchildren, family and those who called her friend. Spending time with friends and family at the lake, playing games, fishing and taking care of others brought Jeanne great joy. She will be remembered by many for her smile.

Jeanne is survived by her husband, Vernon, Wahpeton; her three children: Kenneth (Sherry) Bakken, Shafer, MN; Kathy (Tim) Strom, Longmont, CO; and David (Gaye) Bakken, New Braunfels, TX; grandchildren: Jeremiah Strom, Longmont, CO; Mia Bakken, New Braunfels, TX; Sara Bakken, Fargo, ND; and Samuel Bakken, Minneapolis, MN; great grandchild, Kavan Strom, Longmont, CO; her sister, Lucille Norem, Wahpeton; sister-in-law, Opal Evenson, Sisseton, SD; brother-in-law, Joe Bakken, Stark, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Minnie, her brothers, Harvey and Alfred Arnold, and an infant sister.
