Joyce Alene Harriet was born November 27, 1927, in Wahpeton, ND, the daughter of John and Josie (Hanson) Schultz. She grew up near Dwight ND, and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1945. She worked for Montgomery Ward in Wahpeton, where she met her future husband. She was united in marriage with Earl Tobias on August 19, 1947. The couple first lived in Wahpeton, moving to Park Rapids, Minnesota, for a short period of time, and then returning to Wahpeton where they raised their son and daughter. Earl passed away January 26, 1985, and Joyce continued living in the house Earl built in Wahpeton. She worked at Jorgenson Variety, Mary Ann Shoes, and Wahpeton Drug. While at the drug store, she worked for three different owners and was a well-respected employee. Joyce also did the book work for Earl's Concrete Construction and Tobias Paint, Glass and Decorating.

Joyce was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. She enjoyed visiting with friends, reading People Magazine from cover to cover, and never missed an episode of the Bold and the Beautiful. She continued her mother Josie's tradition of being a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother.

Joyce is survived by her son and daughter: Randy (Nanci) Tobias, Breckenridge, Minnesota; and Deb Tobias, Wahpeton; two granddaughters: Stacey Tobias (Jacob Ell) and Courtney Tobias (Dom Izzo); one brother, John Schultz Jr; many nieces and nephews; and her dog Kodi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josie Schultz; her husband, Earl; her sister, Lyla Stiller; and two brothers, James D. Schultz and Dale Schultz.
