Leroy N. Edwards, 92, Fargo, ND formerly of Wahpeton, ND died Tuesday December 1 at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held on Friday December 4 at 10:30 A.M. at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery , Mandan , ND . Military Honors will be conducted by the Hafner-Miller-Ross American Legion Post No. 20, Woody Keeble VFW Post No.4324 and the ND Military Funeral Honors.





Leroy Norman Edwards was born on September 5, 1917 near Comstock , MN to Ole and Ella (Swenson) Edwards. He married Joan England on May 25, 1953 at Dallas , TX . To this union 3 children were born.





He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, was charter member and life member of the Woody Keeble VFW Post No. 4324 and the Hafner-Miller-Ross American Legion Post No. 20; interested in American Legion Baseball program and Veterans Affairs; was a charter member of the Wahpeton Eagles Club and many other service organizations. He served our country in the US Marine Corp during WW II from 1942 until 1945 in South Pacific; was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart on July 18, 1944. He was engaged in battles in Guadalcanal, British Solomons Islands , Tarawa, British Gilbert Islands, Saipan, and Marianas Islands . Leroy worked with Sturdevant Auto Parts Inc. as an auto parts salesman for 35 years.





He is survived by his wife, Joan Edwards, Fargo; daughter, Lynn (Mike) Stutts, Rockwall, TX, 2 sons, Jack (Joyce) Edwards, Kapolei, HI, Joe (Jaymi) Edwards, Honolulu, HI; eleven grandchildren, Katie and Michael Stutts, Rockwall, TX, Annika Edwards, Kapolei, HI, Zack, Maile, Jake, Maika, Noa, Ilima, Nani and Lehua Edwards, Honolulu, HI; 3 brothers, Orville (Betty) Edwards, Breckenridge, MN, Lloyd Edwards, Grand Forks, ND, Earl (Ethel) Edwards, Wolverton, MN; 6 sisters, Marian Carlson, Wolverton, MN, Agnes Cook, Silver Springs, FL, Harriet Ness, Wolverton, MN, Clarice Hughes, Fargo ND, Norma (Verne)Janke, , Wheaton, MN and Grace (Robert) Ellis, Ft. Collins, CO;





He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ted; and sisters, Ethel Weber and Leone Edwards.





In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be given to the Wahpeton American Legion Baseball.
