Lester H. Deike, 85, Wahpeton, ND, died Sunday August 10, 2008 at Meritcare Health System, Fargo , ND . The funeral service will be Thursday, August 14, 2008, 11:00 am, at Bethel Lutheran Church , Wahpeton, ND, with Rev. Gary Mikkelson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens , Wahpeton.





Lester Deike, son of Herman and Eleanora (Schmadeke) Deike was born June 2, 1923 in Mooreton Township . At the age of two he moved with his family to a farm just one mile east from his birthplace where he attended rural school and church at Great Bend . He lived on this farm until he was married in 1946.





On May 4, 1946 Lester was united in marriage to Gladys Friskop at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. They lived in Great Bend for six years while Lester continued to farm with his father and brother. In the fall of 1952 Lester and Gladys moved to a location near his home farm where they built their own home and continued living there for the next 50 years.





Lester was currently a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was a past member of Evangelical United Brethren Church at Great Bend , serving on various boards and positions of the church. Lester enjoyed traveling south during the winters and playing cards with friends and family. In his free time he restored old John Deere Tractors.





Lester is survived by his wife Gladys of 62 years of Wahpeton; two daughters: Renae (Dennis) Parvey, Rolla, ND; Mary (Don) McCloskey, Fargo, ND; grandchildren;; Tricia (Dave) Kummer, Grinnell, Chad (Hilary) Deike, Ames, Iowa; Matthew Parvey, Bottineau, ND; great grandchildren: Hannah, Abby, Maddy, and Kwin, his brother, Dale (Janice) Deike, Wahpeton; his sisters: Lavola Hoeft, Wahpeton and Lucile (Duane) Lenz, Lincoln, Neb. and several nieces and nephews.





He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Larry (2001) and his sister Evelyn.
