Lila Singelmann

Lila Singelmann, 94, Wahpeton, ND, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at St. Catherine’s Living Center , Wahpeton. The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. Forester’s Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton; also, visitation one hour on Thursday before the service at the church. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery , Wahpeton in the spring.





Lila was born April 2, 1914, at rural Mooreton , ND , the daughter of Joseph and Ida (Hoeft) Hoffman. She attended school and graduated from high school at Antelope Township . She worked at the Bagg Farm and married Welford W. “Hap” Singelmann on October 25, 1933. They lived at rural Mooreton before moving south of Breckenridge , MN where they lived for a couple of years. The family then moved to Wahpeton where Lila has since resided. Lila worked for the Globe Gazette and the Farmer Globe in Wahpeton, and the Stratford Hotel in Breckenridge until the hotel burned down. Hap passed away on April 28, 1979.





Lila was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Forester’s. She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary and the Women’s Relief Corps. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed bingo and doing volunteer work at St. Catherine’s Living Center .





Lila is survived by her three sons, and her daughter, William (Doris) Singelmann, Park Rapids, MN, Robert ‘Bob’ (Lonnie) Singelmann, Wahpeton, James (Gail) Singelmann, Breckenridge, Marlys Smith, Dwight, ND; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Clarice Ferguson, Wahpeton.





She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hap; her granddaughter, Tammie Lehman; her great-granddaughter, Abbey Smith; her sister, Mabel Link; and her six brothers, Roy, Joseph, Ralph, William, Omar ‘Pete’, and Orin ‘Lou’ Hoffman.
