Louise Olson

Louise Olson, 91, Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Wyndmere, ND passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 21, at 2:00 PM at Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, ND with Rev. Harvey Henderson officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 pm at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Louise was born on December 2, 1922 in Fargo, ND to William and Fannie (Henderson) Johnson. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1940 and North Dakota Agricultural College (NDSU) with a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1944. She attended Iowa State College for four summers and received a master's degree in vocational education in 1952. On September 10, 1955, Louise married Milo Olson at the First Baptist Church in Fargo. They made their home on the Olson family farm in rural Wyndmere, ND. In retirement, the couple wintered for 18 years in Brownsville, TX.

Louise maintained a life-long interest in education. During her teaching career, she taught in Wyndmere, New Salem, Williston, Fergus Falls, MN and Maryville, MO. She served on the Wyndmere School Board for nine years, the North Dakota State Advisory Council for Vocational Education for six years, was president of the North Dakota Home Economics Association in 1977, and worked for many years as a teacher-educator for the College of Home Economics at NDSU. She was active in the community as a member of the Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Homestead Homemakers, and Wyndmere Senior Citizens. Louise was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge.

Louise is survived by her husband, Milo Olson, Wahpeton, ND; her son, David (Rosemary) Olson, Wyndmere, ND; her daughter, Marilyn Olson, Coralville, IA; her grandchildren, Travis, Trevor, Amanda, and Cody; her great-grandchildren, Logan, McCoy, and Ella; her sister, Mildred (Ken) Kroll, Hopkins, MN; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Krogness; and many nieces and nephews .

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Elizabeth Johnson; her brothers, William Howard Johnson, and Robert Johnson.
