Madelyn Haberman

Madelyn Haberman, 91, Fargo, ND, formerly Barney, ND, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at her residence under the loving care of her family. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Mooreton, ND, with Rev. Peter Anderl officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5 PM to 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM all at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Mooreton. Interment will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Mooreton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Madelyn was born July 22, 1922 in Barney, ND, the daughter of Peter and Clara (Ratka) Moulsoff. She attended school in Barney and graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1940. Madelyn worked for the Barney Café and later was the Barney Post Master. She was united in marriage to James L. Haberman on October 22, 1947 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mantador, ND. The couple lived in Barney, later moving to a farm east of Barney where they raised their eleven children. They enjoyed summers at Ottertail Lake and wintered down south for a couple of years. James passed away October 1, 1988, and Madelyn continued to live on the farm until October of 2011 when she moved to Riverview Place in Fargo where she lived with her sister, Pat.

Madelyn was a longtime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers as well as a 4-H leader and a member of the local homemakers. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting; making many items for her family and acquaintances. She was an avid painter, loved to follow her children's activities and playing cards with them, especially "hand and foot".

Madelyn is survived by nine children: Susan (Dennis) Poppen, St. Charles, MO; Jane (Chuck) Gilleland, Horace, ND; Patricia (Stuart) Boyer, Horace, ND; Mary (Dale) Erbes, Barney; Jeff (Vicki) Haberman, Sioux Falls, SD; Kristie (Mark) Boyer, Barney; Dave (Cathy) Haberman, Grand Forks, ND; Linda (Kevin) Schnepf, West Fargo, ND; Bob (Nya) Haberman, Battle Lake, MN; 34 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two daughters-in-law, Joy Haberman, Barney; DeeDee Haberman, Barney, two sisters and a brother: Ramona Cagley, St. Louis Park, MN; Pat Moulsoff, Fargo, ND and Jim (Lenore) Moulsoff, Plymouth, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Clara Moulsoff, her husband James, her two sons, James and Bill, a grandchild, Madelyn Erbes, great-grandchild Carly Foertsch, her brother, Polycarp Moulsoff, four sisters: Lorraine Lee, Bridget Haberman, Lucian Jensen, and Jeanette White.
