Marlo R. Tveter, 61, Oakes , ND , formerly Mooreton , ND , died Monday, July 20, 2009, at Innovis Health in Fargo , ND . Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, is in charge of arrangements.



The Funeral Service will be Friday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church , Oakes , ND , with Rev. Gordie Lee officiating, and a visitation Thursday at Willow Creek Chapel ( 920 3 rd Ave. N. )





Wahpeton, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7:30 PM prayer service and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at St. Paul ’s Lutheran Cemetery , Mooreton , ND .





Marlo was born July 15, 1948, at Breckenridge , MN , the son of Harry M. and Margaret (Krause) Tveter. He grew up in Mooreton where he attended grade school and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1966. He served in the US Army from October of 1968 to September of 1968 during the Vietnam War. After being Honorably Discharged he worked for Vernon Brozoskie Construction. Marlo was united in marriage to Karan J. Hejtmanek on August 22, 1970 at Fargo , ND . They lived in Wahpeton where he attended NDSCS before they moved to St. Paul , MN where he worked for Minnesota Government. Marlo purchased and operated the Ark Lounge in Oaks in 1976 and then attended Valley City State University where he received his Bachelor Degree in Education. In 1980 the family moved to Grand Forks , ND where Marlo obtained his Masters Degree at UND. The family then lived in Mooreton before Marlo started work as an airline dispatcher at Houston , Texas and Lansing , Michigan . He later returned to Oaks, ND where he worked several years for Dakota Improvement and was elected mayor of Oaks from 2003 to 2007.





Marlo was a member of Grace Lutheran Church , Robert Bergman American Legion Post No. 283, Mooreton , ND , where he was past District Commander and Eastern Region Vice Commander; Barney VFW Memorial Post No. 9366, where he was lifetime member; and was a life member of the DAV.





Marlo is survived by his daughter and two sons: Kimberly Tveter, West Fargo; Timothy ( Tracy ) Tveter, children, Damien and Reece, Tomball , Texas ; Thomas (Tammy) Tveter, children, Nicollette and Presely, West Fargo; two brothers: Russell (Tina) Tveter, Wilbur , NE ; and Kim (Brenda) Tveter, Fargo , ND .





He was preceded in death by his father, Harry, his mother, Margaret, and his brother, Nolan.
