Maurice Myhre, 84, Fergus Falls , MN , formerly Abercrombie , ND , died Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home, Fergus Falls . The funeral service will be Friday, 2:30 PM at Bethany Free Lutheran Church, rural Abercrombie, ND with Rev. Francis Monseth officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Willow Creek Chapel ( 920 3 rd Ave. N. ) Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Bethany Free Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.





Maurice was born in Lloydminster , Sask. , Canada , on February 5, 1925, to Selmer and Alma (Hermo) Myhre. At the age of thirteen the family moved to rural Abercrombie, where he attended school. Maurice served in the Army during the Korean War. On November 20, 1948, he married Florence Hermunslie at Bethany Free Lutheran Church , rural Abercrombie. The couple lived and raised their five children near Abercrombie. Maurice’s passion was farming; he started farming at the age of 16 and farmed for 60 years. He entered the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Fergus Falls , MN in December of 2007.





Maurice was a member of Bethany Free Lutheran Church where he was a church deacon and trustee. He served on the school board, was a 4H Leader and after retirement enjoyed working with flowers and doing jigsaw puzzles.





Maurice is survived by his wife Florence Myhre, Pelican Valley Nursing Home, Pelican Rapids, MN; three sons and two daughters: Mark (Pam) Myhre, Abercrombie; Gary (Denise) Myhre, Rugby, ND; Norma (Dennis) Brudwick, Alexandria, VA; Sandra (Rick) Sletmoen, Hawley, MN; and Earl (Vicki) Myhre, Abercrombie, ND; 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, three brothers: Victor Myhre, Fergus Falls; Kenneth (Beverly) Myhre, Crete IL., and David (Ruth) Myhre, Half Moon Bay, CA ; one sister, Judith (Percy) Strand, Wahpeton; his sister-in-law, Lois Myhre, Abercrombie, ND, and several nieces and nephews.





He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Nicholas Myhre, his brother, Owen Myhre and his sister-in-law, Pauline Myhre.
