Melvina B. Johnson, 94, Breckenridge , MN , formerly of Wahpeton and Galchutt , ND died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at St. Francis Healthcare Campus-Home, Breckenridge. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 14 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery , Wahpeton in the spring.





Melvina Bertina Johnson was born September 21, 1914, at rural Wahpeton to Tom and Karen (Bakken) Halvorson. She received her formal education in rural Wahpeton. On June 6, 1937, she married Arthur E. Johnson at Bethany Lutheran Church , rural Abercrombie , ND by the Rev. Porter Gisvold. They lived and farmed near Galchutt until retiring in 1978 when they moved to Wahpeton. Melvina played the organ at Galchutt Lutheran Church for many years. Her husband, Art, died on December 17, 1989. She continued to reside in their home until June of 2002 when she moved to Fourth Avenue Manor, Wahpeton. She continued to reside in their home until July of 2008, when she entered St. Francis Healthcare Campus-Home.





She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and belonged to the quilters where she made quilts for her family and church. She really enjoyed her social life.





Melvina is survived by her 2 sons and their wife’s, Arlin (Mary Lou) Johnson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Donald (Cynthia) Johnson, Maple Grove, MN; 4 grandchildren, Wade (Judi) Johnson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Tracey (Brad) Lindberg, Breckenridge, MN, Grant and Cole Johnson, Maple Grove, MN; 2 great-grandchildren, Paige Lindberg, Minneapolis, MN, Blaire Lindberg, Breckenridge; her niece, Karen (Darrell) Wincek, Minneapolis; and her nephew, Richard (Donna) Nelson, Chesapeake, VA.





She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur E. Johnson; an infant daughter, Elaine Grace; 2 sisters, Grace Halvorson, Hazel Knighton; and her sister-in-law, Clara Johnson.
