Minnie Gietzen

Wilhelmina ‘Minnie” E. Gietzen, 73, Wahpeton, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at her home. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Willow Creek Chapel ( 920 3 rd Ave N ), Wahpeton with a Prayer Service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. The Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, ND with Rev. Joseph Arul as celebrant. Interment will be held at the church cemetery at a later date.





Wilhelmina Elizabeth Gietzen was born August 4, 1935 at Carson , ND to Edward and Elizabeth (Seeberger) Weinberger. She was baptized on August 11, 1935 at St. Joseph ’s Church, St. Joseph , ND by P. Dominic Reeber, O.S.B. She received her formal education at Harper District #2, Grant County , rural St. Joseph , ND . She worked at Glendive, MT in a restaurant and moved back to Glen Ullin and worked in a restaurant. On September 5, 1955, she married Cyril Gietzen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin by Rev. Frederic Mundt, O.S.B. The couple moved to Minneapolis , MN where Cy enrolled in Radio School . In 1956 they moved to Wahpeton where Cy worked at KBMW Radio Station. Minnie worked at NDSCS in the cafeteria, Trinity Day Care Center, and worked for 15 years at Valley Lake Boys Home as a cook. He husband died on January 15, 2002. She retired and continued to live in Wahpeton.





Minnie was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed feeding birds in her back lawn, cooking and baking, especially banana bread, and spending time with her grandchildren.





She is survived by her 2 sons, Gregg Gietzen, and his girl friend, Brenda Martinson, West. Fargo, ND, Scott (Michelle) Gietzen, Davenport, ND; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 4 brothers, Nick (Caroline) Weinberger, New Salem, ND, Leo (Florence) Weinberger, Dickson, ND, John Weinberger, Dickinson, Bill (Lavon) Weinberger, Glen Ullin, ND; and many nieces and nephews.





She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cyril; 3 brothers, Adam, Pete, Ed; and 1 sister, Marion Schneider.
