Pearl Gast

June 10, 1924 — July 1, 2012

Pearl Gast, 88, Wahpeton, ND, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jim Gustafson officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Internment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Pearl was born June 10, 1924, in Lidgerwood, ND, the daughter of August and Helena (Wolff) Schultz. She grew up and attended schools in the Lidgerwood, Mantador, and Hankinson areas until the family moved to Wahpeton in 1942. She worked at a local print shop until her marriage.

Pearl was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Gast on July 16, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. They raised their three children in Wahpeton. Pearl worked as a waitress at Veda's Steakhouse and as a housekeeper for various families. In 1962, Pearl began working for the Maintenance Department at NDSCS as a custodian in the women's dormitories. Ted preceded her in death on November 22, 1988. Pearl retired in 1991 after 29 years at NDSCS. She eventually moved to Appletree Court in Breckenridge, MN and later became a resident of St. Catherine's Living Center in 2010.

Pearl was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the Eagle's Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, and was a former member of the Women's Relief Corp of Wahpeton. She enjoyed embroidering, sewing, and going dancing with Ted in her younger years. Later in life she enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Family was Pearl's first priority and she worked very hard to support and raise her children insuring they were dressed decently, well fed, and attended church regularly. She helped encourage her grandchildren, worried about them constantly (world class worrier) and their activities were always important to her.

Pearl is survived by her son, Larry Gast, Battle Lake, MN; her daughters, Linda (Mike) Rheault, Fergus Falls, MN, Lynette (Chris) Buskirk, Prescott Valley, AZ; her grandchildren, Jennifer Gast, Casey Gast, Tina (Shane) Edlund, Laura (Josh) Rogers, Jordan and Callie Buskirk; and her sister-in-law, Jody Gast, Aurora, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; daughter-in-law, Twyla Gast; a granddaughter, Leah Rheault; a great granddaughter Faith Edlund, and her sisters, Esther Heley and Hattie Winefeldt.
