Percy Strand

Percy Strand, 94, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 with his daughters at his side at Sanford Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 22, at 10:30 AM at Bethany Free Lutheran Church, Rural Abercrombie, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Bethany Free Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Association Free Lutheran Bible School or the Gideons. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Percy James Strand was born to Ingmar & Ruth Strand on January 31, 1922, rural Abercrombie, ND. He attended Kinneberg Grade School through grade 8 and graduated from Abercrombie High School in 1940. He worked on the family farm until 1946 when he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He served during WWII in the Philippines and Hawaii. In 1947 he was honorably discharged and returned to the family farm. He attended agriculture classes at North Dakota State School of Science. He was a member of the American Legion Post #128 and an active member of the Gideons for many years.

Percy married Judith Myhre on June 24, 1949. He was a farmer and carpenter for over 60 years. He and Judith were married almost 65 years and instilled in each of their 8 children the Biblical Christian values they had built their lives upon. In 1993, they retired from farming and moved to Wahpeton, ND. In 2011, Percy became a resident at the Leach Home where he always enjoyed coffee, cookies and good conversation.

Percy is survived by his sons Ronald (Barbara) Strand, Abercrombie, ND; Dennis (Deb) Strand, Grand Forks, ND; Duane (Kim) Strand, Wahpeton, ND; Paul (Jan) Strand, Kenyon, MN; Charles (Lynell) Strand, Greenbush, MN; and daughters Elaine (Dan) Mundfrom, Richmond, KY; Jean (Bob) Rudebusch, Wahpeton, ND; Joyce (Bryan) Folson, Grand Forks, ND; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, his brother Irving (Shirley) Rice Lake, WI; sisters-in-law Betty Lou Strand and Shirley Strand, Hawley, MN; and brother-in-law Glenn Fixen, Wahpeton, ND.

Percy is preceded in death by his parents Ingmar and Ruth Strand, wife Judith, brothers Donald and Lyle, sisters Rachel Fixen and Naomi Lyseng, and brother-in-law Arley Lyseng.
