Ronald Summerfield

April 25, 1946 — April 23, 2016

Ronald E. Summerfield, 69, Wahpeton, ND passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at home under the care of Hospice. The memorial service will be on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 611 5th Street North, Breckenridge, MN. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the Hall. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home of Wahpeton is in charge of the arrangements.
Ron was born April 25, 1946 at Jamestown, ND to Gottlieb and Ethel (Ferree) Summerfield, of Alfred, ND. He attended a country school in his earlier grades & graduated from Gackle High School in 1965.
On September 17, 1965 Ron married Lillian Kirschenman of Adrian, ND in Jamestown, ND. They moved to Fargo, ND where Ron worked at various gas stations as a mechanic. It was in Fargo their daughter, Ronda, was born. After learning the trade of welding they moved to Wahpeton where Ron worked as service manager for Frontier, Inc. It was at this time that their son, Loel, was born. Ron later became plant manager of Frontier until 1995. He then did farm work for Jim Klein of Breckenridge, eventually working for Primeboard and then took a job as a maintenance technician for Unicco at Cargill of Wahpeton, retiring from there in 2010. He was always a very industrious man, thinking up projects, almost looking for repairs to make.
Ron's favorite scripture was Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." He loved working with God's creation. He loved growing flowers, fruits and vegetables which he generously shared with friends. A quote that fits him is: "I love sharing my garden's bounty with those I love. A gift from the garden truly is a gift from the heart."
Ron also loved planting trees, and more trees. He loved being outside where he could observe all creatures, wild & tame. He loved fishing - winter and summer, and deer hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking, having made a lot of the furniture in their home.
He was a member of the Breckenridge Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He would speak to those he could about our creator's promises for this earth to be restored to the Paradise it was originally intended to be.
Ron is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lillian, Wahpeton, ND ; one daughter, Ronda (Dean) Rustad, Ray, ND and one son, Loel (Darcie) Summerfield, Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Laurel(Justin), Mapleton, ND, Bjorn, Ray, ND, Tristyn & Zandyr, Fargo, ND; five brothers, Lawrence, Miami, FL; James(Brenda), Modesto, CA; Lyle(Jane), Stockton, CA; Leslie, Stockton, CA; and Lester(Sarah), Stockton, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Douglas, Ernest, and Allan, and a sister-in-law, Betty.
