Shirley Peters

March 28, 1933 — January 9, 2010

Shirley Peters, 76, of Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Fairmount , ND passed away on Saturday, January, 9, 2010 at Meritcare Hospital , South University in Fargo , ND . Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 1 PM at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fairmount , ND with Father Scott Sautner officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery , Fairmount , ND .



Shirley was born on March 28, 1933 to Harry and Nora (Strickland) Schlieker in Richland County , ND . She grew up and attended school in Fairmount , ND and graduated from Fairmount High School . She moved to Minneapolis , MN and worked at a tavern there where she met her future husband, Bob.



Shirley was united in marriage to Bob Peters in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on November 15, 1958. After they were married they farmed at various places in the Fairmount area. For many years she was a housekeeper at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, ND. In 1989, Shirley and Bob were involved in a serious car accident and Shirley quit working to take care of Bob. Bob passed away on December 10, 2001 and that is when Shirley moved into the Leach Home in Wahpeton where she has resided since.



Shirley enjoyed gambling, bowling, playing cards, collecting dolls, and Wrestlemania. When she would play cards with her nieces and nephews she would be known to bend the rules a time or two. She loved seeing her nieces and nephews and thought of them as her children.



Shirley is survived by her niece, Barb (David) Rettig, Fairmount, ND; plus 26 other nieces and nephews; her brothers-in-law, Melvin Peters, Stacy, MN, Duane Peters, Pine City, MN, Bernard Peters, Modesto, CA; her sister-in-law, Delores Griggs, Truth or Consequences, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Nora Schlieker; her husband, Bob Peters; her brother, Carl Schlieker; her brother-in-law: Lawrence Peters; and her sisters-in-law, Francis Lotzer and Clara Manson.
