Virgil J. Pausch, 83, rural Hankinson, ND, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at St. Francis Nursing Home, Breckenridge, MN. The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 20, at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, Mantador , ND with Rev. Peter Anderl celebrant. The visitation will be Friday, from 6 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer vigil at Willow Creek Chapel ( 920 3 rd Ave. N. ) Wahpeton, ND and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Sons of the American Legion, Robert Bergman American Legion Post No. 283, Mooreton, ND. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, is in charge of the arrangements.





Virgil Joseph Pausch was born on December 24, 1926 in Barney Township to Henry and Theresa (Krump) Pausch. He attended grade school at Barney Township School #4. He worked on the family farm before entering the U.S. Army on January 26, 1946. He was in the Medics and was stationed in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands . He took his surgical technician training at Fitzsimmons General Hospital , Colorado . He was discharged on May 15, 1947. On September 27, 1949 he married Alice Meyer of Wahpeton, ND. They lived and farmed in Brandenburg Township for 27 years and in 1976 moved to Mooreton Township where they still reside. They farmed in partnership with their son, Craig. They had a dairy operation from 1949 until 1992. They also raised pigs and stock cows.





Virgil was a member of the Mooreton American Legion Robert Bergman Post No. 283 and a lifelong member of St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church of Mantador, ND. Virgil was a loving and caring husband and father who took great interest in his families activities. He also enjoyed doing craft work with wood.





Virgil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice, rural Hankinson, ND; his son, Craig (Diane) Pausch, rural Hankinson; his two daughters, Carol Pausch, Wahpeton; Sharon (Dan) Berg, Woodbury, MN; five grandchildren: Heather (John) German, Chance Pausch, Jasper (Tracey) Berg, Jessica (Jeff) Lambrecht, and Jacqueline Berg; four great-grandchildren: Holly and Cort German; Brandon and Nolan Lambrecht; two brothers: Donald (Margaret) Pausch, and Gerald (Kathy) Pausch, all of rural Wahpeton; and a sister, Rita Leinen, Wahpeton, ND.





He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Theresa Pausch, two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Leinen, and Joan Thiel and one brother, Harold Pausch.





Memorials may be given to Sons of the American Legion, Robert Bergman American Legion post No. 283, Mooreton, ND .
