Charles Wallace Hardie was born to Wallace and Hattie (Franke) Hardie on October 28, 1931 at his home in LaMars township.  He grew up on the Hardie family farm where he developed a life-long love of farming. He was a steward of the land and felt it was his responsibility to leave it better than he found it.   He attended LaMars #1 country school through eighth grade and then attended the Agriculture school in Morris, MN.    He was confirmed at First English Church in Fairmount, ND.

He married Lucy Davison on October 28, 1951 at the Congregational Church in Tintah, Minnesota.  They made their home on the Hardie family farm in LaMars Township where they raised their three children.

Charles was active in his church and community serving on several boards including the building committee for Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, the Bluemont Lakes Board and the LaMars Township board.

On December 5, 1992, he married Joan Lyon in Fargo, ND and they made their home there until moving to Wahpeton in 2010.  They enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, the east coast and Germany.

In “retirement” he was active with Farm Rescue and found much fulfillment in helping farm families in crisis.  He attended many events and enjoyed promoting Farm Rescue and their mission.   He had a passion for John Deere tractors and enjoyed buying and restoring his numerous two cylinder tractors.  He loved to show visitors his “museum” on the farm of antique tractors and farm memorabilia.   He enjoyed hunting and had many memorable hunting trips with good friends.  Charlie also loved eagles and had an extensive collection of eagle items.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, and his three children – Wallace (Constance) Hardie of Wahpeton, David (Joan) Hardie of Breezy Point, MN; Wanda (Wayne) Mauch of Wahpeton, and an exchange student daughter, Irene DelRio Rivera and her family of Mexico City.   Three step-children, Matt Lyon of Felton MN, Beth Lyon of Fort Collins CO, and Stephanie (Shawn) Score of Aberdeen, SD.
