Reecy Nickeson, 51, of Alexandria, MN, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at her daughters' home in Wahpeton, ND, under the care of hospice. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on her birthday, July 23, 2019 from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm at The Sunken Garden at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, 1225 Estabrook Drive, Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Larisa (Reecy) Louise Nickeson was born on July 23, 1967 in Brookings, SD to Jim and Camille (Rasmusson) Nickeson. She attended school in Veblen, SD participating in various school activities and sports. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church. She graduated from Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN with a degree in Mass Communications.
Reecy married Curt Holmgren at Our Savior’s Church in Veblen, SD on June 9, 1989. They made their home in Fargo, ND, and raised their two children, Rachel and Gannon.
After their divorce, Reecy moved her family to Plymouth, MN. She worked as a Real Estate Agent. For the past 11 years she was an Executive Assistant at General Mills in Minneapolis, MN. She decided she was ready for a new adventure and moved to Alexandria, MN, in August of 2018. She worked in sales for Colin’s Furniture.
Growing up on a farm in SD, Reecy loved being outdoors, flower gardening, feeding birds, especially Cardinals, camping and sitting around a fire in the evenings. She enjoyed reading, watching sports especially the Olympics. Checking Pinterest for new recipes to try you could say was one of her passions. She liked the challenge of various entrepreneurial activities. Reecy looked forward to taking trips with her children, sister and close friends. Celebrating her birthday was something she looked forward to annually and she enjoyed planning; each year something different. One of her favorites was preferably on a pontoon playing her favorite songs. She loved meeting new people, and touched many friends in her short life. She was often known for being a prankster, a straight shooter (being blunt – lol), one to laugh with and share a good conversation whether it be over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
In her role as a single parent, she made it her priority to appreciate and nurture the close bond she had with her two precious children.
She is survived by her daughter Rachel, her son Gannon, her parents Jim and Camille Nickeson, her sister Darci Ihrke, her brother Lee Nickeson, and 7 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Jim and Jewel (Aadland) Nickeson and her maternal grandparents Howard and Pearl (Storebo) Rasmusson.
