Thomas Monson

Thomas Monson, 75, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away on June 7, 2022, at St. Frances Hospital in Breckenridge, MN. His memorial service will be held at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 1:00 pm, with visitation one hour prior.  René Hasbargen will lead the service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home.

He was born on May 20, 1947, at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota to Arnold and Luella Monson.

In July of 1951, he was admitted to Grafton State Development Center where he lived until he found his home in Wahpeton, with Red River Human Services Foundation in October of 1985.

Thomas worked at RRHSF’s workshop throughout the years.  He participated in Special Olympics bowling, basketball, and track. He was a man of little words but was definitely able to get his point across.  If you were lucky enough, he would flash you a smile or laugh, which radiated love and joy, straight from his heart.  Some of his favorite things to do were, listen to music, dance and sing with staff, play catch, and page thru magazines.  Thomas had many staff and housemates throughout the years who cared for him and will miss him dearly.

Special thank you, to all of the Red River staff that have provided wonderful care in the past and more recently at the 109 house.  Another special thank you to Thomas’ dear friends Shari and Marlys for the love and special attention they provided him thru the years.  We take comfort in knowing he is flying high and has been reunited with his good friend Darleen.
