Amelia Zimmerman

Amelia Zimmerman, 97, of Wahpeton, ND, formerly Cayuga, ND passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton under the care of CHI Health at Home Hospice.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with a prayer service and rosary at 6:00 pm at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.  Visitation will continue from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by the funeral mass at 10:00 am, on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski officiating.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.  Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Amelia Loeb was born March 5, 1921 to Alexander and Rufina Loeb on the family farm near Raleigh, ND.  She was the first born of nine children.  Her mother passed when Amelia was only 12 years only.  Amelia then quit school to help raise her younger siblings.

Amelia married John Zimmerman in 1965.  They were together until John passed in 1989.  Amelia had 10 children, she was a very hard worker and pretty much raised the children on her own.   Amelia moved to Wahpeton in 1992, to be closer to some of her children.  She loved gardening, quilting and crocheting, cooking, baking, and spending time with her children and their families.  Holidays and other special occasions were always spent at Grandma & Grandpa “Zimms”.

She leaves her children, Leo Wegener, Forman,  ND, Vi (Joe) Theis, North Mankato, MN, Gerry (Wally) Breiland, Blomkest, MN, Clair (Steve) Zoucha, Wahpeton, ND, Charlie (Bernice) Wegener, Bismarck, ND, Ernie (Yvonne) Wegener, Kindred, ND, Ali LaBatte, Britton, SD, James (Brenda) Wegener, Cayuga, ND, Bruce (Lorna) Wegener, Cayuga; 25 Grandchildren; 45 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren; her brother, Sam; two sisters, Angie and Irene; her sister-in-law, Emerita; and 2 brothers-in-law, Norman and Fred.

Amelia was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Marvin; her brothers, Ralph, Teanus and Jake; sisters, Francis and Agnes; 3 sisters-in-law, Helen, Liz and Barb; and brothers-in-law, Victor and Bernard.
