Anthony ‘Tony’ A. Gilles, 80, rural Wahpeton, ND died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, March 14, 2009 10:30 A.M. at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Hankinson , ND , with visitation Friday, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Anthony “Tony” Gilles, son of John Gilles and Theresa (Hermes) Gilles, was born in Summit Township , Tyler , ND , on July 23, 1928. Tony attended grade school in Summit Township and graduated from High School at Wahpeton, ND and was a lifetime resident and farmer in Summit Township . He served in the US Army from March of 1951 to March of 1953. He married Audrey Theede in 1951 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Hankinson , ND . He was a life time member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church, served on the church council for several years and sang with the choir for 50 plus years. He served as assessor for Summit Township for a number of years, a 4-H leader for 22 years and served as chairman of the Richland County Board for many years. Tony was also a life time member of the Wahpeton Knights of Columbus, a member of the Milton E. Stevenson American Legion Post No. 106 and on the Board of Directors when the Fairmount Credit Union was organized.

Tony is survived by his wife Audrey, rural Wahpeton, ND; two sons; Reggie (Karen) Gilles, Great Bend, ND; Dale (Lynnette) Gilles, Wahpeton; four daughters: Charlyne (Dennis) LaVoie, Walker, MN, Kathleen (David) Pauly, Wahpeton, ND, Tami (David) Matejcek, Wahpeton, ND and Carla (Chip) Swenson, Breckenridge, MN; 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one sister, Theresa Kubela, Wahpeton, ND and 3 brothers, Merrill Gilles, Ft. Myer, FL, Michael (Angeline) Gilles, Lidgerwood, ND and Francis (Jane) Gilles, Wahpeton, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa Gilles two brothers; Lambert and Marion and a son-in-law, David Bohn.
