Arlene M. Haugen, 79, Enderlin , ND , formerly of McLeod , ND , died Saturday (on her husband’s birthday), June 14, 2008, at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 18 at the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Leonard, ND (directions, from Wyndmere 15 miles north on Hwy 18 to Co. Rd #4, west 2.8 miles to Co. Rd #23, and north 3.9 miles to church) with Rev. Wayne Quibell officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND; also, visitation Wednesday one hour prior to time of service at the church. Interment will be held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery , rural Leonard , ND .





Arlene Mae Haugen was born March 17, 1929, at rural DeLamere , ND to Arthur and Freda (Rasmussen) Olson where she grew up and attended school. She married Alfred J. Haugen on July 26, 1946, in Breckenridge , MN . The couple farmed near McLeod , ND until 1977. They continued to live on the farm while she worked at the Dahlgren Birdseed Plant in Lisbon , ND .





Arlene loved to grow flowers, mowing hay, reading, playing the piano, and deer hunting. A great accomplishment of Arlene’s was receiving her GED at the age of 62. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Her husband, Alfred, died on July 14, 1988. Arlene moved to Lisbon in December of 1999 and happily resided there until May of 2006 when she entered Maryhill Manor at Enderlin.





She is survived by her 6 children, Arvid (Pat) Haugen, Hankinson, ND, Marlys (Jack) Tibbitts, Coeur d’Alene, ID, Richard (Denise) Haugen, McLeod, Dale (Rita) Haugen, Lisbon, Sandra (Keith) Spidahl, Lisbon, Merlin (Brenda) Haugen, Bismarck, ND; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Allison Halmrast, Milnor, ND; her sister, Diane Scheff, Lisbon; and her sister-in-law, Ragna Woodbury, Wahpeton.





Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; and an infant daughter, Alice.





Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
