Bennie Granholt Jr

Bennie Granholt Jr. 84, formerly rural Walcott, ND, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Frazee Care Center, Frazee, MN. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 23, 11:00 a.m., at Richland Lutheran Church, rural Walcott, ND, with Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Vertin-Munson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bennie Granholt Jr, was born August 11, 1932, near Walcott, ND, the son of Bennie and Selpha Granholt. He attended country schools and graduated from Christine High School. He was united in marriage to Marjorie June Gerrard on June 2, 1956, at Richland Lutheran Church. Bennie farmed on the home farm. Marjorie passed away May 30, 2007; Bennie continued to live on the farm helping his son. In 2008 he moved to the Coop Living Center in West Fargo and in 2015 he moved to Sheyenne Crossings.

Bennie was a member of Richland Lutheran Church and involved in the Men's Club. He was a Township Supervisor for many years and drove bus for a time. He enjoyed farming, traveling when time allowed, playing cards with friends and woodworking. His faith and grandchildren were very important to him.

Bennie is survived by his daughter, Laurie (Jim) Ostrom, West Fargo, ND; his son, Craig (LaVonne) Granholt, rural Christine, ND; five grandchildren and their children: Angela (Kevin) Kussatz, children Stella and Jayce; Nicholas (Jess) Ostrom and son, Rhett; Joshua (Suzie) Granholt, children Shelby and Evan; Matthew (Jill) Granholt, children Emily and Jens; Nellie Olsgaard and son, Colton; and his sister, Elaine Awe, New London, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, and his sister Claire Zick.
