Carol Bertelsen

August 11, 1934 — September 17, 2017

Carole Jeanne Bertelsen, 83, rural Erhard, MN, passed away September 18, 2017 in Bemidji, MN. Carol Jeanne was born August 11, 1934 in Summit Township, at home on the farm near Fairmount, ND, the daughter of Harry and Caroline (Burfeind) Ehlers. She attended schools in Fairmount, Summit Township Country School and in Cedar Falls Iowa, before graduating in 1952 from Wahpeton High School in Wahpeton, ND. After graduation, she worked at Otter Tail Power Co in Wahpeton. In 1953 she married Charles Bertelsen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tyler, ND. They had two children, Brent and Lora. Charles and Jeanne farmed and worked together in rural Fairmount for 38 years before retiring in 1991 to Long Lake near Erhard. Charles passed away on November 18, 1996.

Jean was spunky and had a gift for fun, laughter, and making friends. She was intensively private in many respects, but was also the dearest and best of friend to those who knew her. She took great pleasure in the peace and beauty of her lake home and the love of her children and honorary “grandchildren” who knew her as Grandma Jeanne.

She is survived by her children, Brent D. Bertelsen, Fairmount; and Lora Bertelsen, Bemidji, her sister Marlene (Merlyn) Miller, Wahpeton; and many nieces and nephews.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters Harriet Pelletier and June Barnard, sisters-in-law Mary Lou Meyer and Diane Bertelsen, brother-in-law Karl Bertelsen, and a niece Pam Johnson.

Visitation will be from 3 PM to 6 PM, with a 6 PM Prayer Service on Saturday, September 23, 2017 with Rev. Jim Holtus at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. Interment will be Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements have been entrusted with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
