Catherine Rydell

Catherine "Cathy" Rydell, 75, Wahpeton, ND passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21, at 2:00 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND with Rev. Anthony Ahrendt officitating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Cathy was born on October 9, 1941 in Fergus Falls, MN to William and Catherine (Hennenfent) O'Keefe. She grew up in the Foxhome, MN area until moving to Wahpeton, ND and attending school there. Cathy was married in her younger years and from that union four children were born.

Cathy was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" Rydell on July 2, 1971 at St. Joseph's Lutheran Church, Rosholt, SD. They farmed in the Fairmount, ND area and raised their four children. In 1984, they moved to Fargo, ND where Cathy operated a housecleaning business. In 1988, life took them to Omaha, NE where Cathy continued in her housecleaning business. They decided to move back to Fairmount in 1993 and Cathy began working for the Dakota Magic Casino where she enjoyed visiting and creating new friendships with the customers. She retired from Dakota Magic in 2006 due to health issues. Cathy fought kidney disease and had been on dialysis for the past five years.

Cathy loved to have her family around her and very much enjoyed her grandchildren visits. She liked to crochet and enjoyed reading.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Jerry, Wahpeton, her sons: Steve (Jill Henderson) Goodijohn, Omaha, NE and his children, Jason (Becky), Kendra (Mike), Abby (Brandon), and Michael ; Greg (Kathy) Goodijohn, Otter Tail, MN and their children, Michael (Emily) and Matthew; her twin daughters, Kris (Jack) Braun, Wahpeton, ND and their children Jordan (Tia), Brittney (Ethan), and Morgan; Kay (RJ) Lick, Rosholt, SD and their children, Luke and Jennifer (Mike); her twelve great-grandchildren; her brother, Mike (Shirley) O'Keefe, Morris, MN; and her sister, Irene Hanson, El Cahoun, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine O'Keefe, her sisters, Donna Boll and Shirley Scheiterlien; and her brother, Patrick O'Keefe.
