Charles Scott

September 3, 1949 — August 18, 2016

Charles Patrick "Chuck" Scott, 66, passed away surrounded by his family at North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital in Manhasset, NY, on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 3rd at 11:00AM at St. John's Catholic Church, 115 2nd St. N., Wahpeton, ND. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to service. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton.

Chuck was born in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Ed and Pat (Jordan) Scott. His family lived in Spencer, IA, New Rockford, ND, Oakes, ND, Ely, MN, and Wahpeton, ND. He was very active in the Boy Scouts, attending Boy Scout camp in the summer. During the winter months Chuck played ice hockey and dragged his dad to the outdoor rink on freezing cold mornings for 6AM practices. He became an avid golfer in Wahpeton, spending his summers working at the golf course. Chuck graduated from Wahpeton High School and attended St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, where he earned a BA in Economics. Following his college graduation, he studied at Maryknoll Seminary, Hingham, MA, and earned an MA in Theology at Maryknoll Graduate School of Theology, Ossining, NY. He chose to leave the seminary after a year to pursue a career in business. He was married to Mary Lou Chapel in 1978. Their son Matthew was born in 1980.

Chuck spent his career in New York working in finance. He began working as a Credit and Operations Manager for Savin. Following that he became an Area Credit Manager for Hewlett Packard for a few years and then became a Director of Credit for Ricoh. Chuck spent 10 years managing the Credit Department for Sequins International where he met Gladys DeRienzo. He finished his career working as a Financial Counselor for the non-profit Community Enrichment & Education Foundation.

Chuck and Gladys DeRienzo were lucky enough to find each other and share their lives for 16 years. They were united in marriage in New York, on June 23, 2010. Chuck was a passionate golfer, loyal Twins baseball fan, UND hockey devotee, rotisserie baseball enthusiast, West Point football fan, and an avid reader. Chuck loved making memories by spending time with his grandchildren, watching sporting events, and traveling to his favorite lake in Minnesota to fish and enjoy the sunsets.

Chuck was a loving, caring, strong and genuine individual who truly touched the lives of everyone he met. He was a wonderful husband to his wife, devoted father to his children, and an amazing Papa to his grandchildren. Throughout his battle with cancer, Chuck remained positive, optimistic and focused on giving all he had to provide his family with the most of Chuck possible. Even leading into his last round of treatment, he came into it with the mindset that "we are going to get through this one, just like we have gotten through all the other challenges." That is who Chuck was. He was dearly loved and will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Gladys, Queens, NY, son and daughter-in-law Matt & Nicole Scott, grandchildren Olivia & Griffin Scott, Chicago, IL, daughters Nicole DeRienzo, Queens, NY, and Kelly DeRienzo, Ft. Bragg, NC, siblings Ed (Bonnie) Scott, Billings, MT, Janet Scott (Jon Silverman), Minneapolis, MN, and Mark Scott, Fargo, ND, nephew Michael Scott (Alexis Bonogofsky), Billings, MT, nieces Kelly Scott, Reno, NV, Anna Silverman, Minneapolis, MN, Libby Silverman, Minneapolis, MN, and parents Ed and Pat Scott, Wahpeton, ND.
