Cheryl B. Lee

January 2, 1949 — February 7, 2024

Cheryl B. Lee, 75, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Colfax, ND, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in her home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND.  Visitation will be from noon – 3 pm, followed by her service at 3 pm.  Pastor Julé Ballinger will officiate.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home.

She was born on January 2, 1949, to Hilman and Martha (Eckhardt) Halstenson in Wahpeton, ND. She spent her early years on a farmstead near Mooreton, ND. As a teenager, she moved to Wahpeton. After high school, she attended Ritters Beauty School in Fergus Falls, MN.

On May 16th, 1970, she married John Lee. Their relationship of 50 years was full of adventure, including summers at Wee Villa Resort and travel to Europe, Mexico, and all over the United States in their RV to enjoy the warm winter weather in Arizona and Texas. She and John made friends everywhere and enjoyed meeting up at campgrounds, casinos and other fun places.

Cheryl was also a business owner. At First Avenue Hair Salon in Abercrombie, she offered perms and shampoo sets each day. She often said she worked until her feet “were bloody stumps.”

Cheryl loved time with her daughters, and was extremely proud of the lives they created. To her many nieces and nephews (including honorary nieces and nephews), she was known as Auntie CheChe. Her four grandsons and two great-granddaughters were her pride and joy. More than just a mother and grandma, Cheryl was a friend to her kids and grandkids. She relished their visits, jokes, stories, artwork and texts, and was very proud of everything they accomplished.

You could often find Cheryl with her sister, Pam, headed to the casino, or, at home in the evenings making multiple-hour rotations of phone calls to friends and family.

Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Gina (Jeff) Skovholt of Mooreton, ND, and Rebecca (Phil) Lee-Hunt of Fargo, ND; grandsons, Brady Manning, Jason (Shantyla) Manning, Eli Hunt and William Hunt; great-granddaughters, Kinlee and Kora Manning; sister, Pam (Bill) Braun, sisters-in-law, Sharon (Stub) Sundlie, Cathy Lee, Renee (Joe) Speidel, and Fran Huberty; brothers-in-law Pat Prindiville, and Sherman Johnson; and many nieces and nephews who she loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her parents; brothers Rodney, Jim, and Gary; and sisters Muriel, Janet, Bev, and Connie.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to Eventide Sheyenne Crossings Rehabilitation Center for two months of wonderful care which allowed Cheryl to gain the strength to return home in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the general fund of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Colfax, ND, or the Colfax Park Board (PO Box 15, Colfax, ND 58018).
