Clarence Schutz

Clarence Schutz, 86, of Wahpeton, North Dakota, passed away Thursday, February, 29, 2024, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND.  His visitation is scheduled from 5-7 p.m., with the prayer service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.  Clarence’s memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Valley Christian Assembly in Breckenridge, MN.  There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.   Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Harwood, ND.  Pastors Carlos Huizar and Tim Collins will officiate the services.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.  

Clarence Charlie Schutz was born October 31, 1937, in Burt, North Dakota, to Carl and Emma (Knittel) Schutz.  He grew up in Hebron, ND, and graduated from Hebron High in 1956.  After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.   

Clarence was united in marriage to Nancy Lantz in 1967 in Granville, Ohio.  The couple lived in Ohio and California, then came back to Hebron to help his dad at the sporting goods store.  In 1984, Clarence and his family moved to Wahpeton, ND, where he worked at 3M.  

Clarence was an active member in the Red River Sportsman’s Organization, American Legion, and Eagle’s clubs.  He was an active advisor in the Boy Scouts until 2019.  Clarence was also known as playing Santa for many Christmas events.   He enjoyed fishing and was an avid gun collector. He loved taking his grandkids to the shooting range.  

Clarence is survived by is wife, Nancy; daughters, Cathy and Sarah; sons, Kevin (Caryn), Nathan (Kate), and Aaron (Elyse) Schutz; grandchildren, Isaiah, Joseph, Donovan, Hunter, Malaki, Lilly, Emmalynn, Amelia, Ellie, Sophie, Hana, and Meron; siblings, Eileen (James) Wolf, Claudia Deardorff, and Orville (Beverly) Schutz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Emma; sister, Cynthia; brother Gerald; and granddaughter, Olivia.
