Clyde Klosterman

September 21, 1931 — November 25, 2017

Clyde A. Klosterman, 86, rural Mooreton, ND, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, ND. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Mooreton, with Rev. Peter Anderl officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service followed by a Rosary at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Robert Bergman American Legion Post No. 283, Sons of the American Legion and North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Arrangements have been entrusted with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Clyde was born September 21, 1931 in rural Mooreton, the son of Albert and Anna (Engels) Klosterman. He grew up attending Barney No. 1 and later Wahpeton High School. Clyde was drafted into the US Army in April of 1952 and served in Korea as a Staff Sergeant. In 1954 he received his honorable discharge and returned to his home near Mooreton. Clyde was married to Julia Bernard on September 16, 1954 at St. Philips Catholic Church in Hankinson, ND. The couple lived and farmed near Mooreton where they raised their seven children. He semi-retired from farming in 1993. In February of 2017 he moved into nursing homes in Wahpeton-Breckenridge.

Clyde was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where he was active serving as a trustee, taught CCD for a while and was on the cemetery board. He did volunteer work at the Bagg Farm. He enjoyed carpentry, working on iron in his shop, fixing things, restoring tractors and attending auction sales. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Clyde was a member of Robert Bergman American Legion Post No. 283

Clyde is survived by his wife, Julia; six children: Denise (Don) Schumaker, Bismarck, ND; Ken (Lynette) Klosterman, Wahpeton; Dale (Julene) Klosterman, Washburn, ND; Roger (Penny) Klosterman, Wahpeton; Janet (Dan) Waclawik, Fargo, ND; Jason (Cheryl) Klosterman, Mooreton, 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and a sister, Donna (Dennis) Scheller, Burnsville, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Craig, his grandson, Jerrod, four siblings, Mark, Eleanor, Ruth and Dean, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
