Constance Floyd Sletten

Constance (Connie) Sletten, 97, of Wahpeton, ND, died Sunday, September 6, 2026. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour before the service, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. Pastor Amy Eisenmann will officiate.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.

Constance (Connie) Floyd was born September 10, 1928, the daughter of B. W. and Alice (Pearsall) Floyd, in Newberry, South Carolina. She attended Silverstreet High School. During those years, she was active in speech contests, spelling bees, Glee Club, and Basketball. She graduated Valedictorian of her class.

Connie was united in marriage to Milton P. Sletten of Wahpeton, ND on July 25, 1945, at Columbia, South Carolina. They returned to Wahpeton in January of 1946. She attended night school at NDSSS, and in 1948 they began their business of Sletten’s on Dakota Ave and 11th Street, where she managed the office and parts department for the next twenty-five years. She then worked for Montgomery Ward as Unit Stock Control Manager until the Wahpeton store closed, and later transferred to the Jamestown, ND, store in the same position until that store closed. In 1975, she was employed at First National Bank in Wahpeton in Customer Service and remained there until she retired in 1991 from the then-Norwest Bank.

Connie was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, was a member of Circles throughout the years, and was a member of the church prayer chain. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, holding most local offices and Tenth District Vice President and President for two years each and several State Chairmanships, attending many State and National conventions as a delegate.

Connie was always there and willing to help others. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, and her family always came first.

Following retirement, she and Milton enjoyed a number of winters in Florida, with time spent between Star Lake, Minnesota, and Wahpeton in the summer.

Connie is survived by daughter Bonnie Sletten of Wahpeton, North Dakota; Daughter Diana (Duane) Finnie of Wahpeton, North Dakota; daughter-in-law, Kathy Sletten of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren: Michael Sletten, Boise, Idaho; Donna (Chris) Jones of Caldwell, Idaho; Brian (Kelly) Finnie of Wahpeton, ND; Brent (Brittany) Finnie of Wahpeton, ND; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, B.W. & Alice Floyd; husband, Milton Sletten; mother and father-in-law, Peter O. & Melinda Sletten; brother, John V (Annette) Floyd; sister, Helen (Tom) Saye; a son, David Sletten; daughter, Barbara (Denny) Fisher; infant granddaughter, Brenda Adkins; and granddaughter, Michelle Lehmitz.
