Curtis Anthony Haberman

Mar 22, 1966 — Jul 31, 2026

Curtis (Curt) Anthony Haberman, 60, of Barney, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, North Dakota, after a short but fierce battle with cancer.

Curt was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota, on March 22, 1966, to Madonna and Emeric Haberman. He grew up on the family farm just outside of Barney. Curt graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1984. He then attended the North Dakota State College of Science (previously NDSSS) in the Automotive and Auto Diesel Technology department and graduated in 1986.

He spent the next few years farming with family before being hired at the 3M/Imation plant in Wahpeton. Curt worked for 3M for 15 years before finding his perfect career as a grounds and maintenance worker for the North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS). Curt took great pride in making sure the campus looked its best. He had just reached 20 years with NDSCS when his illness forced him to retire early.

In his free time, Curt enjoyed watching NASCAR and old movies and TV shows. In recent years, he discovered he had a talent for rebuilding and refurbishing old steel toy tractors. He also enjoyed refurbishing a few vintage Cub Cadet mowers.

Curt will be remembered for being the quiet one, with a kind heart, a good sense of humor, and a stubborn streak.

Curt was preceded in death by his father, Emeric Haberman, and his sisters, Colleen (Adams) Freitag and Michele (Adams) Tuinstra.

Curt is survived by his mother, Madonna Haberman, and siblings, Darius “DJ” (Jane) Adams, Cynthia (Donavon “Sid”) Sondreal and Eric (Laurie) Haberman.

He is also survived by the following family members: Jessica Freitag and Garrett Wright, and daughter Cassie Freitag (partner Justice Gietzen, and children Hendrix Dwyer, Lyla Rogelstad and Ryland Gietzen); Lucas Freitag, and sons Cashton, Princeton and Kaeson; Nicole and Micah Naasz, and sons Nathaniel, Eli and Samuel; Jennifer Adams and Jason Likness, and son Shaun Adams; Sabrina and Russell Metz, and daughter Sheridan; Danielle Rainsberry; Emilie Rainsberry, and children Jaxen and Ellisen; Kylie Haberman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 12:00 am at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Visitation will start one hour prior to the service.

Curt will be laid to rest at the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Mooreton, North Dakota.
