Daniel P. Onchuck, 60, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 4 PM-7 PM, at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 10:30 AM, with visitation one hour before at the Church.
He was born on October 29, 1965, in Breckenridge, MN, to Willard and Mavis Onchuck. From an early age, he was known for his kindness, determination, and an unmatched work ethic, qualities that would guide him throughout his life.
Daniel “Dan” attended Wahpeton High School, where he played basketball and first learned his trade and love of farming beside his dad. After graduation, he continued his education at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, earning a degree in Carpentry.
On December 12, 1987, he married the love of his life, Stacie Onchuck (Heitkamp). He built them their house, and together, they built their life rooted in love, partnership, and shared values, creating a home filled with warmth and support.
Dan dedicated much of his life to his customers, whom he cherished, and his Pioneer seed business, taking great pride in his work. He was known not only for his expansive knowledge and dedication, but also for the relationships he built along the way. Beyond work, he found true purpose in helping others—always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or show up when someone needed help.
Family was at the heart of everything Dan did. He cherished time spent with loved ones and found the greatest joy in playing with his grandchildren, whether at the farm or at the lake. He was also a phenomenal cook and made the best caramel popcorn. His legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to helping others in any way possible.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Mavis (Matt) Onchuck; his grandparents, Ludwig and Ella Matt, and Peter and Margaret Onchuck; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Peggy (Brandt) Heitkamp.
He is survived by his wife, Stacie Onchuck (Heitkamp), his children, Addie Overland (Cory), and Brody Onchuck (Alivia); grandchildren, Harper and Hayes Overland, and Maren Onchuck; siblings, Mae Hoefs (Delwayne), Sue Stubson (Rick), Tammy Bernhardt (Gary), and Kevin Onchuck; many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed towards Chahinkapa Zoo, as he loved going there with his grandkids.
Daniel “Dan” Onchuck will be remembered for his loving heart, hardworking spirit, and unwavering willingness to help others.
